SERVICES FOR RESEARCH & GENERAL LIBRARY USE
ASK A LIBRARIAN
Reference librarians are available for in-person discussions as well as by:
LIBRARY LIAISONS
A faculty librarian is assigned to each academic department. The library liaison is your primary contact for:
- Requesting new materials to be purchased for the Library;
- Requesting library instruction for your courses;
- Familiarizing you with the Library's services and resources.
FACULTY PUBLICATIONS DATABASE
Ashland University Library maintains a database of faculty publications. Please contact a reference librarian about your recent publications so we may add them to our database and purchase copies of published works.
Through the Ashland University Library catalog you can view a listing of faculty-authored books that are currently part of the Library's collection.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Free interlibrary loan service is available for materials that cannot be accessed through the Ashland University Library's collections, databases, or OhioLINK. Books borrowed via interlibrary loan must be picked up at the Library Circulation Desk. Periodical articles are mailed directly to requesters via their Ashland University e-mail account.
Separate online interlibrary loan request forms are available within the Ashland University Library's website for books and articles.
JOURNAL LENDING
Faculty members may borrow hard copies of journals. All journals must be signed out at the Library's Circulation Desk.
EXTENDED BORROWING PERIODS FOR FACULTY
Need a particular book for longer than the traditional borrowing period? Ask at the Circulation Desk to extend the borrowing period for Ashland University Library books.
MANAGING YOUR LIBRARY ACCOUNT
You can renew Library materials, view due dates, and check the status of OhioLINK requests through the MY ACCOUNT feature. Logging in requires only your 7-digit Ashland University ID number and your name. Linked access to My ACCOUNT is available in the left-hand menu of the Ashland University Library homepage as well as on the main menu screen of the Library's online catalog.
OHIOLINK & SEARCHOHIO POLICIES
OhioLINK and SearchOhio policies differ from Ashland University Library policies in that these entities charges $0.50/day for each overdue item.
Additionally, for OhioLINK materials, on the 30th day of being overdue the fine changes automatically to $50.00. A $125.00 fine is charged for OhioLINK materials that are lost, destroyed, or not returned.
OhioLINK circulation privileges for faculty cease once fines equal or exceed $25.00.
OhioLINK and SearchOhio policies and fines are determined solely by those entities and therefore cannot be waived by Ashland University.
ROWE ROOM
The Rowe Room, on the 5th floor of the Ashland University Library, is a private mid-sized study room set aside exclusively for faculty use. Contact Judi Humphrey (x5400) to reserve the room in advance.
RETIRED & EMERITI FACULTY
Retired and emeriti faculty living in Ohio have full library privileges at no cost to themselves. Retired and emeriti faculty living outside of Ohio cannot borrow library materials, but otherwise have full library privileges at no cost to themselves.

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION
The Reference and Instruction Librarians are always happy to provide library instruction to classes both on the main campus and at regional centers. Library instruction can be tailored to meet your objectives for a particular course or assignment and/or introduce your students to key sources used in the discourse of your particular discipline. Please contact the Library at least two weeks in advance of the session date to allow for standard preparation. Contact a Reference and Instruction Librarian by phone at 419-289-5400 (x5400) or email at library@ashland.edu. Face-to-face discussions are likewise welcome.
LIBRARY INSTRUCTION CLASSROOM
The Library Instruction Classroom (LIC) is located on the ground floor of the Library. Designated primarily for library instruction, the LIC may be reserved for class sessions requiring student computer work stations. Contact reference staff at 419-289-5400 (x5400) to schedule a class session in the LIC.
