Equipment Coordinator - Athletics

Ashland University is an NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), one of the most highly respected NCAA Division II conferences in the country. Ashland University offers a comprehensive 23-sport athletic program. The university is located off of Interstate 71 in Ashland, Ohio, midway between Cleveland and Columbus.

Position Summary:

The Equipment Coordinator is responsible for meeting the equipment needs for Ashland University's 23 varsity sports. This includes preparing equipment for practice and games, preparing the field/court for practices and/or games, and set up and tear down of athletic facilities. This position will require weekend and evening hours and travel. The Equipment Coordinator reports to the Director of Athletics. This is a full-time position.

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for inventory, care and repair of equipment and uniforms. The position oversees the maintenance and management of two equipment rooms.
  • In tandem with Facilities and Athletic Department administrators, ensures that Athletic Department facilities are maintained at the highest level. This position is responsible for the care, organization and inventory of two equipment room offices and all laundry facilities in the Athletic Department.
  • Works with coaches to select and order uniforms and gear. This position serves as the primary contact with Under Armour representatives and Ashland University's gear provider - BSN Sports. This position will also be required to work with other vendors.
  • Attends a wide range of AU sporting events, meeting pre-game, in-game and post-game needs. This position works all football practices and attends all football games, home and away.
  • As part of the Athletic Department management team, attends weekly staff meetings and any other department meetings as needed.
  • Produces organizational plans to ensure that teams have all their equipment needs met for games and practices. This includes producing a schedule of coverage for events.
  • Supervises a graduate assistant. In that role, the coordinator sets the graduate assistant's schedule and provide guidance in all aspects of the job. The coordinator is also responsible for the hiring of the graduate assistant position.
  • Has the opportunity to build a student work staff. The equipment coordinator hires, trains, and supervises student work staff.
  • Takes the lead in fitting student-athletes with uniforms and equipment.
  • Requires being current with trends and general practices in sport management and equipment coordination. The position attends workshops, clinics, and forums in an effort to stay current in the field.
  • At times, requires working with other on-campus departments such as Student Affairs and Recreational Services. This position will also be called on at times to work with community organizations such as the YMCA and the Kroc Center.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Candidates should have Athletic Equipment Manager certification or be in the process of obtaining certification.
  • Position requires strong organizational and time-management skills and be able to multi-task.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to work with student-athletes and coaches.
  • Position requires the ability to lift and transport heavy objects. Should be able to work in various weather conditions and be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to work weekends and evenings is required. Some travel is involved with this position.
