Position Summary

The Learning Systems Manager provides technical support for Ashland University's Learning Management System(s). This position is responsible for the support, design, development, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of resources used for instructional functions. The Learning Systems Manager is responsible for the university's LMS and integrated tools and oversees the installation of all system updates, upgrades, integrated tools and other software integrated with all of AU's LMS's. Additionally, they will work closely with the Senior Learning Systems Manager, interact with faculty, staff, and students, as well as be a liaison with the IT department and external vendors in support of University-wide learning applications.

 

  Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities                                                                                      

•     Guides and supports Ashland University faculty and staff in the integration of the Learning Management Systems, associated add-ons and other educational technology tools

•      Proactively monitor and respond to learning application issues, including testing tools prior to hardware and software upgrades

•     Work with instructional design team to troubleshoot  and resolve course content technical issues

•     Assist the Senior LMS Manager, Executive Director LeamAU and Associate Provost on ways to increase efficiency, adoption and utilization of LMS related products

•      Proactively monitor and respond to learning application issues, including testing tools prior to hardware and software upgrades

•      Stay current on industry best-practices and options for digital learning systems to facilitate adult learning principles and methodologies                                                                                                            ·

•     Writes and maintains procedures and policies to ensure security and integrity of system/networks

•      Gather and evaluate data to ensure appropriate technical solutions are pursued, developed and implemented

•      Acquire and maintain knowledge of current technology as it applies to learning software and systems. This is a dynamic position in a rapidly changing technology environment, so the ability to adapt and develop new skills is essential

•      Provide evening and weekend email, telephone, and in-person user support, primarily to faculty and staff, for just-in-time assistance with learning applications

•     Performs other work-related duties as assigned

 

Position Requirements -Identify Essential and/or Preferred Requirements

 

Education

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Educational/InstructionaTechnology, Instructional Design, Information Systems Management or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning

 

Preferred:  Master's Degree in Educational/Instructional Technology Information Systems Management or related field

 

Experience

Minimum:

•      1-2 years of experience administering Learning Management/Content Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard Learn (AU's current LMS), Canvas, Moodie) in Higher Education.

•     Familiarity with Student Information Systems (e.g., Colleague, Banner, Slate)

•     Experience working with Media streaming and LMS linkage (Kaltura, Mediasite, etc.)

•     Proficiency with both PC and Mac Platforms

 

Preferred:

•     Blackboard Learn & Moodie experience

•     Colleague Student Information  Systems experience

•     Course design and development experience as either part of a team or an instructional designer

•     Experience working with Help Desk and end-user support personnel

•     Experience with Kaltura MediaSpace, CaptureSpace and LMS Integration

•     Google Apps for Education

•     Program Management

 

Skills

Minimum:

•     Highly developed communication skills (Oral, written, and interpersonal).

•     Ability to develop collegial partnerships with Information Technology Network, Software and Hardware teams.

•     Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.                                                                                                                 ·

•     Able to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet hard deadlines.

 

Preferred:

•     Experience with: X/HTML, CSS, JavaScript (DHTML), Java, XML, Structured Query Language (SQL) or equivalent

•     Database and data analytics skills to gather information and create reports and/or dashboards

•     Proficiency with Web development tools and Content Management Systems (CMS)

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements                                                               

Office environment with some lifting and hauling of equipment up to 50 lbs.; Weekend and evening working hours; Availability via cell phone during normal working hours and after hours is a requirement of this position.  Ability to drive to remote campus locations and attend training as assigned. Evening hours or weekend work should be expected.
