Professional Instructor/Program Coordinator - College of Online and Adult Studies

The College of Online and Adult Studies (COAS) at Ashland University ( invites applications for Professional Instructor/Program Coordinator, BS in Organizational Leadership and BS in Training and Development. This is 9-month, non-tenure track position reporting directly to the Department Chair of Professional Studies.

Position Summary:

This position includes the designation of the Program Coordinator and is ideal for the person who is interested in both administrative leadership and the opportunity to teach a variety of courses in Organizational Leadership. The position will require a load of seventy-five percent (75%) Professional Instructor and twenty-five percent (25%) Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator is responsible for the advancement and management of the Organizational Leadership degree in Correctional Education (CE), online and post-traditional programming, and workforce development. The position will provide guidance and leadership in the department for process/outcome and online curriculum advancement for post-traditional learners. The Program Coordinator will work in coordination with CE on key academic initiatives that expand academic programming opportunities for the CE program and support continuous improvement of the academic programming.

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:

The Professional Instructor/Program Coordinator is responsible for directing all aspects of the Organizational Leadership (OL) and Training and Development (TL) program, including:

  • Identifying, developing, and evaluating learning opportunities primarily in Ohio and the region.
  • Developing and conducting orientations for students and mentoring instructors.
  • Encouraging and facilitating on-going communication between the students, instructors and the program; and developing and implementing policies and procedures related to the OL program.
  • Recruiting students in collaboration with marketing and admissions.
  • Instruction of 9 credit hours during each academic year and 3 hour release for the program coordinator responsibilities.
  • Student advisement.
  • Service to the university, including departmental meetings and committee work.
  • Participation in community activities.
  • Collection and aggregation of program data for OL and TD programs regarding quality of academic programs, student feedback, achievement of desired outcomes, and other identified key metrics ("meaningful indicators of effectiveness").
  • Working with COAS Dean and staff, assists the COAS departments in continuous improvement efforts focused on regional workforce development related to OL and TL.
  • Design and implementation of noncredit-to-credit pathways in coordination with Corporate Connections and Workforce.
  • Coordination and expansion of CE program academic offerings related to OL.

Position Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years college teaching experience in an online education program required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant and successful administrative/leadership experience, such as a program coordinator, supervisor, or director in a higher education context preferred.
  • Knowledge of post-traditional learners including workforce skill requirements preferred.
  • Understanding of Correctional Education learners, modalities, and learning systems.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to teach across the curriculum.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards published by Higher Learning Commission.
  • Willingness to engage in community partnership and program development.
  • Ability to use electronic learning management system software (i.e. Blackboard Learn) to deliver curriculum to students.
  • Ability to work irregular hours to meet the needs of students.
  • The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience teaching or academic preparation to teach.
  • The successful candidate should be able to describe a current or intended scholarly agenda related to organizational leadership and training or post¬≠ traditional and adult learners.
  • Demonstrated capacity to organize and administer complex programming related to adult learners.
  • Willingness to engage in community partnership and program development.
