Reset Password

The self-service password reset tool resets the following passwords for students, faculty and staff:

  • Ashland University Network password
  • Blackboard Learn
  • Colleague
  • GMail/Google Apps
  • KBox
  • MyAU Portal
  • OnTheHub software download
  • WebAdvisor

NOTE: This tool does NOT reset any of the passwords for the following systems:

  • Kronos
  • Nursing applications
  • The Office of Admissions' Eagles Landing
  • Physical Plant work order system (SchoolDude)
  • Simple Campus Housing (housing.ashland.edu)

Before you can use this tool to reset your password,you must enroll with the Reset Tool. Below are step-by-step directions on how to enroll.

Enrolling in the New Password Reset Tool

  1. Navigate to pass.it.ashland.edu. Then login to the Password Reset Tool.
  2. You will see the screen asking you to enroll. Click on “Click Here”.
  3. You will be presented with several methods to enroll in the Password Reset Tool. It is recommended that you enroll in multiple recovery methods.

The first method of enrollment is Security Questions.

  • You must select 3 different security questions and provide answers to them.
  • Capitalization will not affect your answers.
  • If you uncheck the “Hide Answers” box, you will be able to see your responses as you type them.
  • Once you have set up your security questions, the screen will state that you have enrolled for security questions.

An additional enrollment method is through verification code.

  • This method will allow you to register an alternate email address to receive a recovery code.
  • The email address you choose should be one that you can reliably access.
  • Please use an email address that is not your Ashland University Gmail account.
  • Once you have registered an alternate email, you will see the screen with your listed registered email addresses.

The final method of enrollment is Google Authenticator.

  • This method requires a smartphone. Please follow the directions listed on the webpage.
  • When you have successfully enrolled using Google Authenticator, you should see the page with a QR Code.

  1. You will need to download the ADSelfService Plus app from the Google Play Store. You can do so by searching “adselfservice plus”.
  2. After downloading the app, you will need to change the server settings. Do so by clicking on “Server Settings” and changing them to:
    • Enable https ON
    • Server name or IP Address: pass.it.ashland.edu
    • Port 443
  3. Press “Login”
  4. Enter your username and password where requested.
  5. Press Login.
  6. At the Change Password screen, enter your credentials to change your password. The requirements for your new password are listed below:
    • Your password must contain 3 out of the 4 types of characters (Upper-case letter, Lower-case letter, Number, Symbol).
    • Your password must be at least 8 characters long.
    • Your password may not be any of your old passwords.
    • Your password may not contain any part of your name or username
  7. Press Change.

Enroll in Password Reset Tool with your Mobile App - iPhone

  1. First you will need to download the application in the App Store located on your phone.
  2. Now that the application has downloaded to your phone, open the application and click “Server Settings.”
  3. Inside the server settings menu set up your settings and credentials as :
    • Enable https
    • Server name or IP address: pass.it.ashland.edu
    • Port: 443
  4. Press Done
  5. Once your server settings are complete you may then return to the home menu and click “Login.”
  6. Once you are at the login menu enter your username into the designated field.
  7. After you have entered your username and attempted to log in, the system should direct you to a user “Identity Verification” screen. On this menu screen you will be prompted to allow an email to be sent to an email of your selection. Allow this to send.
  8. Once you have received the email verification code, enter the code in the designated box. By doing this you will have enrolled for reset. Now that you have enrolled you may reset your password.
  9. Now, you are at The Password Reset menu. Inside the current menu, enter your new password and confirm new password. Make sure to follow the “Password Policy Requirements” located directly below the new password dialog area.  Once you have created a password that meets the requirements, reset your password.
    • The minimum password age is 0 (You haven’t used this password before).
    • The maximum password age is 180 (The password will expire in 180 days).
    • The minimum password length is 8 (The password must be at least 8 characters long).
    • No. of passwords remembered is 24 (The system will remember up to the last 24 passwords you have set).
    • The password complexity property is Enabled (You should use upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers and symbols in your password).
  10. Your password has now been reset.

Account Recovery with the Password Reset Tool

  1. If you have enrolled in the Password Reset Tool, you may click on the “Forgot Your Password?” link shown below the username and password fields on the webpage.
  2. After you click the link, you will see the field to enter you Domain User Name. Please enter your username and click “Continue.”
  3. You will then be shown a screen showing various password recovery methods. The recovery methods shown may vary, depending upon the recovery methods you signed up for when you enrolled in the Password Reset Tool. Choose your recovery method and be sure to enter the green characters. Then click “Continue”.

Recovering Your Account Using Security Questions

  1. If you select “Use my security answer to verify my identity” you will see a screen with your security questions. Type the answers to your security questions and click “Continue”.
  2. If you have answered your security questions correctly, you will see the screen with the password requirements and fields to enter your new password. Enter your new password, confirm your new password, enter the green characters, and click “Reset Password”.

Recovering Your Account Using Email Verification

  1. If you select “Send verification code to my email id”, you will see a screen stating that a verification code has been sent to you.You should receive an email with the verification code. Each code will be unique.
  2. Enter the code you received into “Verification Code” box on the Password Reset Tool website, then click “Continue”. If you have entered the code correctly, you will see the screen with the password requirements and fields to enter your new password.
  3. Enter your new password, confirm your new password, enter the green characters, and click “Reset Password”.

Recovering Your Account Using Google Authenticator

  1. If you select the “Use Google Authenticator app for verification” option,you will see the screen asking for the verification code from the authenticator app. You will then have to open the Google Authenticator app on your phone and display the verification code. The code will change every 60 seconds while you have the app open.
  2. Enter the code you received into “Verification Code” box on the Password Reset Tool website, then click “Continue”. If you have entered the code correctly, you will see the screen with the password requirements and fields to enter your new password.
  3. Enter your new password, confirm your new password, enter the green characters, and click “Reset Password”.
