Vice President and Executive Dean
Ashland Theological Seminary
Dr. Wayne McCown was appointed as Vice President and Executive Dean of Ashland Theological Seminary in October 2018. Dr. McCown was selected to succeed Dr. William Crothers and will remain in this role until a permanent head of the Seminary is chosen.
Dr. McCown brings 19 years of service as a seminary dean to this assignment: seven years at Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, OR and 12 years at Northeastern Seminary in Rochester, NY.
Dr. McCown also served three years as a church administrator in the Free Methodist Church and eight years at Roberts Wesleyan College, initially as the Vice President and Academic Dean, then Senior Vice President and Provost.
In 2008, he was named Provost Emeritus of Roberts Wesleyan College and Founding Dean Emeritus of Northeastern Seminary.
Dr. McCown holds five earned degrees: B.A. in Religion and Greek, Seattle Pacific University (1963); B.D. (M.Div), Asbury Theological Seminary (1965); M.A. in Classics, University of Washington (1966); Th.M. in Biblical Studies and Ph.D. in New Testament, Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA (1968, 1970). In 2018, he was awarded an honorary doctorate (D.D.) by Northeastern Seminary.
