Global Education / Study Abroad

The Global Education Office promotes learning opportunities for all eligible Ashland University students to gain an understanding of other regions, countries, languages and cultures through educational travel in the US and abroad.

Opportunities for Everyone

The Study Abroad Office offers a variety of programs and will assist students in finding the program that best fits their academic, professional and personal goals. Options include:

1-2 week faculty-led tours
Students accompany one or more faculty members as they explore a focused topic that uses the destination as the classroom.  Past faculty-led tours have included " Navajo Immersion in Arizona," "African Literature in South  Africa," "Honors Program Italy: The Grand Tour," "Cuisine and Culture of Ireland,"  and more. New faculty-led tours are offered each year.

AU in Costa Rica & AU in France
The best way to learn  a language is through an immersion experience.  "AU in Costa Rica" offers students the opportunity to study Spanish in Santa Ana for 4-8 weeks. "AU in France" offers students the opportunity to study French in Annecy for 6 weeks.  Students live with a host families, experience local culture and visit exciting sites.  

COBE in Taiwan
The College of Business and Economics (COBE) offers students the opportunity to spend six weeks in Taiwan and learn basic Chinese language. Students also take a Taiwan business culture course and conduct site visits at Taiwanese companies.

AU in Germany
This program allows students to take two summer core courses taught by AU faculty and spend three weeks in Wittenberg, Germany.

Student Teaching Abroad
The College of Education offers students the opportunity to complete part of their student teaching requirement abroad.  AU parnters with the Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching to place students at English-speaking schools in one of 16 available countries.

Additional Summer, Semester and Academic-Year programs
Ashland University has pre-approved programs in 38+ countries. Students receive credit for courses taken abroad that advance their AU academic program. For a list of AU-approved programs, visit the Abroad Office website.
