Dr. Russell Weaver will discuss his recently published a book entitled Teaching Literature at Ridgeview. Ridgeview refers to Ridgeview Classical School in Fort Collins, CO. The connection is that the school, one of the top-ranked charter schools in the country, has adopted, through the offices of Florian Hild, a former student of Dr. Weaver's, who was a founding teacher and the school's second principal, his approach to teaching. The book consists of essays by five men and women who either taught at or studied at Ridgeview and two essays by former students of Dr. Weaver who adapted his approach for venues as different as a small-town Ohio high school and Stanford University. The book also contains an essay by Dr. Weaver detailing the origins of his approach to teaching. Dr. Weaver's former student, Seth Snow, who teaches in Danville, OH and who contributed an essay to the book, will also be present to discuss his experience with teaching. The essays are autobiographical rather than theoretical in nature, describing both how each person came to their current practices of teaching and something of what they do in the classroom.
