Conference Topic: Arthur Miller and the Question of Relevance
The 13th International Arthur Miller Conference gathers in the Midwest at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio to discuss the relevance of Arthur Miller in 2019.
The conference will include discussion of the relevance of Miller’s life and works from his roots, sources and early plays through the politics in his plays and his work as adapter. Miller’s works will be compared with other playwrights both past and present.
The keynote address will be delivered by distinguished Arthur Miller scholar Susan C. W. Abbotson of Rhode Island College. She is the author of A Critical Companion to Arthur Miller and Student Companion to Arthur Miller and numerous articles on Miller.
The conference will include staged readings of scenes from Miller’s plays and the Ashland University Department of Theatre will present their production of Miller’s An Enemy of the People on Saturday evening, October 19.
The registration fee includes all meals (Friday reception, Saturday breakfast, lunch & dinner, Sunday breakfast & lunch) and a ticket to An Enemy of the People. Undergraduates - no fee, but registration required
The conference will begin with a reception on Friday evening @ 6 p.m. Sessions are scheduled throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday morning. All meals and sessions will take place in the Myers Convocation Center on the Ashland University campus. The conference will conclude early Sunday afternoon.

Ashland is about an hour from the Cleveland Hopkins and Akron/Canton airports and about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the Columbus airport.
Guests may want to coordinate flights and share a rental car, Uber, Lyft, etc. Wooster Transit has shuttles to and from these three airports. Shuttle requests can be made at www.woostertransit.com.
The hotels are about a 10-minute drive from campus. Shuttles/vans will be provided to get guests to and from the hotels to conference events on campus.
