Welcome to the Department of Chemistry, Geology & Physics
- Our students work closely with their professors and participate actively in all of their classes. They gain hands-on experience with the latest equipment and instrumentation.
- Classes and labs are small: 25-35 students for entry-level courses and generally less than 15 students in upper-level courses.
- Our majors have the opportunity to conduct research with faculty mentors, and they regularly present their results at professional scientific meetings.
- The foundation of all other sciences, physics, is concerned with everything from the largest galaxies to the tiniest subatomic particles. Physics majors and minors receive a great deal of personal attention.
- Ashland's Chemistry program is approved by the American Chemical Society. Majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry provide an outstanding background for a future in laboratory research, science teaching and many other careers including medicine and forensics.
- The Geology program has a very large collection of rocks, fossils, minerals and maps. Regional field experiences are incorporated into multiple courses, and a major field trip to sites such as the Adirondack Mountains or the Canadian Shield is offered every other year. Our new major in Geoscience Technology and Management provides students with the science as well as the business aspects of the geoscience industry.
- Our teacher-training program is highly regarded, and graduates from our science education programs are sought after by Ohio school districts.
