Becoming a Geology Business Leader

Do you want to be part of a brand new major that blends geoscience and business?

Ashland University recognizes there is a current gap in the geoscience industry: geologists know little about the business aspects of their professional and people in business have limited understanding of geology.

You can fill this gap by enrolling in the Geoscience Technology and Management program at Ashland University, a new interdisciplinary major that prepares you to enter the geoscience industry as a geologist and/or manager or an advanced educational program.

What to Expect

This major was developed in close consultation with the College of Business & Economics and several professionals in the geosciences industry (environmental consulting, oil, and natural gas) to ensure it covers today’s topics in geology and business.

You’ll take courses in geology, chemistry, math, business, economics, and environmental ethics as well as gain internship or work experiences. We’ve developed or revised several geology courses including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Economic Geology, Petroleum Geology, and Environmental Geochemistry.

Geology Program Benefits

The many benefits of Ashland University’s Geology programs include:

  • Participate in research projects alongside highly regarded professors
  • Benefit from small class sizes capped at 25 students to allow for maximum interaction with professors comprised of respected and published scientists
  • Develop strong research and writing skills that will serve you well in graduate school or your future career
  • Use scientific equipment in our state-of-the-art sample preparation and instrumental laboratories

Both employers and graduate schools prefer graduates with hands-on, one-on-one experiences that you’ll receive at Ashland University. That’s why 95 percent of all Ashland Geology majors who move onto graduate school do so on full-tuition scholarships.
