Theatre -Musical Theatre

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre (B.A.)

Our Musical Theatre track provides students with opportunities to develop their performance skills in the areas of acting, dance and music. Students in this track are required to have an Applied Music minor and must audition for the Department of Music.

Many students attend individual and combined auditions and are hired by professional theatre companies in the summer. AU Theatre Majors have auditioned for and been hired by the following theatre companies:

  • The Huron Playhouse
  • The Barn Theatre
  • Summer Stock at Findlay
  • Tecumseh Outdoor Drama
  • Texas Family Musicals
  • Theatre West Virginia

Audition skills are assessed each year to meet the department student-learning outcome that students will be prepared to audition for professional theatre. Musical Theatre track students present their resume and audition songs each spring as part of the department’s Assessment Auditions and Interviews.

Graduates of the Musical Theatre track prepare themselves for careers as professional actors or for further study in graduate school. Recent graduates are working at theatres in Chicago, New York, Memphis, North Carolina and Florida  and have been accepted to graduate school at NYU.

All Theatre majors take courses in acting, design, directing, dramatic literature, history and theatre technology. These courses provide students with the fundamental skills and tools necessary to be a well-rounded
theatre artist. Students in the Musical Theatre track take additional courses in dance, musical theatre performance and musical theatre history
