THE GIFT OF FAILURE
In this class, we will be reading, discussing, and implementing ideas from the book, The Gift of Failure - How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed by: Jessica Lahey. This book is about the fear of failure among students and how this fear has the potential to undermine children's autonomy, competence, motivation, and their relationships with the adults in their lives. The author lays out a blueprint with targeted advice for handling homework, report cards, social dynamic, and sports. She sets forth a plan on how educators can help parents learn to step back and embrace their children's setbacks along with their success. We will have required reading, discussion/reflection questions that tie into our reading to have answered, and you will also be asked to bring ideas/lessons/materials that tie into the book that we can implement into our own classrooms for each session. We will have the opportunity to interact with educators from all grade levels and subject areas along with having the opportunity to interact with educators from all grade levels and subject areas along with having the opportunity to share many ideas that we can all use to better ourselves, our students, and our classrooms.
