Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and/or intersex (LGBTQI) students face many obstacles in our society. Bullying, depression, underachievement, and self-‐harm are just a few of the issues affecting this vulnerable community. Whether for religious, political, or cultural reasons, LGBTQI youth struggle to be respected in their schools. Misinformation, stereotypes, and a general lack of understanding are all contributing factors. Fortunately, however, legislation such as Title IX is being used to protect these students from harassment and discrimination. This course highlights the experiences of students and teachers, and we’ll discover new strategies and policies to support LGBTQI students. (Please note: This is a hybrid course. We will have one class meeting on Saturday from 9am -‐ 5pm, and then you will have two weeks to complete the remaining online assignments.
