Course Description:

NewsDepth is a weekly PBS Public Media new show for kinds in 4th-7th grade and it is used by teacher advisory council members weekly in the classroom for student-centered learning and implement standards-based instruction through use of tools provided by ideastream.  Teachers are guided to the tools made available to customize classroom instruction so that students develop the skills they need to survive in today's knowledge-based world.  This includes use of NewDepth's easy-to-teach lessons aligned to Ohio's Learning Standards and the available Teacher Guide.  Teachers will learn to navigate current events with students, while also providing cross-curricular and real-world learning opportunities.  In addition to learning about the resource and the teaching tools made available, teachers will also create lessons of their own to use with NewsDepth and have access to working in small groups to test their lesson in a safe collegial environment before launching with students.
