SEL STRATEGIES FOR WOUNDED STUDENTS
Emotional poverty has become a deterrent to academic success. Research shows that almost half the nation's children have experienced trauma, which has a profoundly negative impact on their behaviors, relationships, learning, and/or mental wellness. Educators must have a basic understanding of the social-emotional needs of wounded children in order to reach them, teach them, and avoid using ineffective strategies and consequences that would only cause further frustration to all parties involved. This course will provide strategies for keeping wounded children engaged in their educational and community settings. It will also investigate personal and professional strategies to empower educators to develop a vision for directing children on a path to academic and life success. This course utilizes the instructor's book "7 Ways to Transform the Lives of Wounded Students," available on Amazon as an e-rental or paperback.
