Authentic Problem Solving is an interactive blended learning course featuring articles, videos, classroom application opportunities, and professional reflection. Research and contemporary learning perspectives on how students learn suggest that authentic tasks and authentic problem solving are powerfully effective for learning. This course will provide experiences to explore, design, and deliver opportunities for your students to be problem solvers with relevant tasks. The learning presented in this course will connect across all grade levels and disciplines.
This course addresses the need for the shift in pedagogy to meet today's learners where they are and support the type of experiences they should have in order to prepared for college and career. Research and contemporary learning perspectives on how students learn suggest that authentic tasks and authentic problem solving are powerfully effective for learning. Providing teachers an opportunity to build their reportoire will help create a more engaging learning environment.
Participants in this course will engage in the following: online discussions, identification and sharing of additional resources aligned to the course content, discuss pratical applications of the course content within their own classroom, provide examples of such applications to the course faciliator, reflect on the impact of their teaching practices on student learning and engagement. Participants will share a portfolio of their learning and application with the course facilitator.
