The Gifted Operating Standards for the State of Ohio have been revised to recognize the importance of supporting professional development for general education classroom teachers. The requirements for earning a “Teaching the Gifted” certificate include coursework in the nature and needs as well as in curriculum and instruction for gifted students. Completion of both courses can be applied toward a gifted endorsement as well as built into a master’s program.
Ashland University’s series of two 2-credit hour courses are designed to:
-
Have immediate usefulness to the learners
-
Be relevant to general education teachers
-
Offer a welcoming training environment so that all learners feel safe to participate
-
Be engaging
-
Be presented in a respectful manner, where learners have an opportunity to share individual experiences, questions and feedback
