Assessing Student Success

At the Dauch College of Business and Economics, we recognize that the learning outcomes of the education process are extremely important, and we’re actively dedicated to ensuring the success of each student. That’s why our approach to student learning outcome assessments follows a continuous improvement model, with an evolving set of outcomes and assessments as we ongoingly react to the needs of our students and refine our data collection and analysis procedures.

Core Competencies

The seven student learning outcome content areas that graduates of business programs at Ashland University should demonstrate are:

  • Communication skills. The ability to correctly and purposefully integrate technology into writing and presentation.

  • Critical thinking. The ability to identity programs, analyze information, and form conclusions within the business context.

  • Business knowledge and technical skills. Demonstrated knowledge from a variety of sub-disciplines and applied knowledge and skills to reach solutions to business needs.

  • Leadership/team skills. The desire to inspire a shared vision, foster a realization of that vision, and facilitate a culture to realize the goals of the vision.

  • Ethics. The ability to understand the ethical behaviors and issues relevant to the business community.

  • Analytical/Quantitative Skills. The possession of analytical and quantitative skills appropriate for the business community.

  • International and Global Perspective. Possess an international and global perspective appropriate for a progressive business community that engages in international business activities.

Student learning outcomes for all seven competencies are assessed through course-embedded assessments for both undergraduate and graduate (MBA) programs, administered and evaluated by faculty and monitored for program assessment purposes.

We also assess student success for a number of external and authentic outcome assessments using a variety of these assessments.
