Business Management Student Organizations
The Ashland University Human Resources Student Chapter helps students to learn more about the field of Human Resources and to gain the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to be a successful HR professional. It is an affiliate student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management SHRM), the world’s largest HR professional society representing 285,000 members in more than 165 countries.
Students meet on a regular basis to discuss workforce readiness issues, legislative updates, diversity initiatives, HR research, and they bring HR professionals to the College of Business and Economics to help other students become more aware of the field and the significant impact that HR has on organizations. The chapter members take company tours, perform community service work, attend local SHRM affiliated chapter meetings to hear speakers and network with HR professionals, and meet with HR professionals in the fields of compensation, benefits, talent management, labor relations, organizational development, career and succession planning. Student chapter members have competed in SHRM Case competitions at the regional level against other student chapter members from other states and in the Ohio HR Games where they have competed against other Ohio student chapter members. Students can achieve an Associate Professional in Human Resources Certification through the Human Resources Certification Institute which demonstrates their knowledge in the Human Resources field and provides them with a competitive advantage in the job market.
