I did an internship with Ecolab in St. Paul, Minnesota. I worked alongside a successful Territory Manager to learn customers‘ operations, understand their cleaning challenges and devise solutions to meet their needs. I gained exposure to the industry including hotel, restaurants, hospitals, schools, and dining facilities. I also worked with a wide customer base including large corporate chains as well as independent, single-unit organizations. I learned how to successfully prospect to find new leads, set-up new accounts, and generate new business for the territory. I received training on how to provide excellent customer service by troubleshooting Ecolab dish machines, laundry equipment and dispensing systems. I worked closely with the District Sales Manager to perfect my sales, presentations, and professional skills. I climbed to the top third among my fellow interns in a sales contest. I learned valuable sales experience, how to evaluate a customer's needs, mechanical/technical skills with tools and machinery, the chemical needs of the hospitality industry, and Confidence in myself! My Environmental Management course was the most helpful for this internship because my ServSafe certification is actually something that is needed when seeking a full-time position as a Territory Manager. It taught me a lot of cleaning and safety information that is essential in the hospitality industry.
