Louise Conn Fleming-Dufala, Ph.D.
Retired Emeritus faculty. Louise Conn Fleming-Dufala, Ph.D., has been a Professor of Education at Ashland University in Ashland Ohio for 23 years. She is the Chairperson of the Department of Foundations, Inquiry, and Community Education. She teaches Democracy in Education, Social and Professional Issues, and Outdoor Education. For years, she has researched, presented, and published on democracy in education and in the community. She is actively involved in volunteer work in the local community and is dedicated to the idea of citizens as actors and problem solvers. She established the Center for Civic Life at Ashland University in February 2012. In her role as director, she has led public forums and community conversations on topics as diverse as the national debt and prescription drug abuse. She has also led follow-up community groups, in which citizens work on an issue. She has used deliberative forums with her students and offers a certificate program in forum facilitation.
