The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a practice-focused degree that prepares nurses to function at the highest level of practice for the current health care environment based on a strong scientific foundation for practice. Emphasis is on evidence-based practice, leadership, cultural competence, organizational analysis and policy. Students prepare for primary care roles as nurse practitioners.

The School Nurse Program at Ashland University is an online graduate-level program approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. It meets all Ohio standards for School Nurse educational programs and recognizes the ANA/NASN Scope and Standards of Practice for School Nursing (second ed., 2011).
The program curriculum is developed in accordance with the mission, goals, and expected sutdent outcomes. The completion of the program requirements meets the ODHE requirements to apply for the Professional Pupil Services License as a School Nurse. Following successful approval by the ODHE, the student may then attain the title of School Nurse (LSN).
The School Nurse program provides the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to apply for the Ohio Department of Education Professional Pupil Services License as a School Nurse. The program provides a strong foundation in community health and education foundations, as well as preparing the nurse to practice as a member of an interprofessional team member in a non-healthcare setting.
