The Hāpara Champion Program 22 23

Topic: Curriculum and Instruction
Instructor: Katherine Crawford
Method: Online (OWRK)
Sponsor: AU Main Campus
Center Offered: OLPD

Course Description:

The Hāpara Champion program is designed with the following components in mind:
1. Empower educators and recognize their autonomy: The Hāpara Champion program empowers educators with an opportunity to provide greater access and equity through innovative technology. Hāpara strives to make learning visible, helps schools shift to deeper learning through technology, and allows educators to differentiate, personalize and make learning more constructive.

2. Provide flexible learning environments: The Hāpara Champion program creates learning environments that are flexible and personalized. The shift from educator-led to student-centered learning fosters engagement, agency and personal growth, emphasizing learner choice, discovery, hands-on learning and celebrating challenges and successes.

3. Foster community and agency: Hāpara’s asynchronous Workspace courses focus on fostering community and agency. Each course section encourages collaboration and authentic learning opportunities for the participants. The facilitator's goal is to applaud milestones, breakthroughs and foster growth
in the participants. In turn, through the completion of each course, the participant’s purpose is to learn to create a highly-engaging, real-world digital space for all learners.

4. Andragogically sound: The course sections are divided into four categories: learning objectives, learning resources, learning tasks and optional deeper learning opportunities. Each participant is required to complete readings, watch instructional videos, complete self-assessments and reflect upon the content in each section. The course recognizes the experience that each participant brings to the course. Facilitator feedback is then provided for each self-reflection. If the reflection is deemed proficient by the facilitator based on the rubric provided, the participant will move on to the next section of the course. If the self-reflection does not meet the facilitator’s expectations based on the rubric, the self-reflection is returned to the participant with feedback for revision.
