Course Description:

Cohesive Classrooms (1 semester credit - Ashland University)

A teacher's role can be summarized as a 'provider of learning.' Within this seemingly simple phrase are intricate responsibilities that can be challenging and difficult to reach when encouraging all learners. While we do a lot of measurement in education, the one thing we cannot measure is a student's potential. This course equips teachers with knowledge, tools and strategies to create truly cohesive classroom communities that allow for optimal learning.

Teachers are introduced to school-wide policy reforms that promote collaboration and group activities. The class specifically addresses metal health disorders in children and adolescents as well as approaches to suicide prevention. Teachers are also provided with ideas and strategies to accommodate learners, including students with special needs. The practical examples, real-life experiences and template in this online course provide teachers a structure to use in their own classrooms.
