First Year Students – Imagine

We encourage students in their first year at Ashland University to imagine what they could accomplish, determine the actions they might take and begin the process of making their dreams reality.

It’s important to imagine what you could be, but don’t forget to work toward it! You should take time to start planning your future so that you can meet your own expectations. Steps to take as you begin your professional journey may include the following:

  • Reflect on what classes, activities and hobbies you excelled in prior to college and how you could build on them here at Ashland University.
  • Don’t be afraid to engage with faculty and ask questions about how to make a career out of the topics that interest you most.
  • Maintain a solid GPA (Check out the Center for Academic Support for helpful strategies).
  • Develop your resume.
  • Join at least one student organization on campus.
  • Visit the Career Center for Life Calling to find helpful workshops and opportunities.
  • Establish a relationship with your professional academic advisor and meet with them to explore different academic disciplines.
  • Attend at least one career fair. Ashland University hosts career fairs in the fall and spring.

As you plan your future, start making headway on the path that best fits your needs and interests:
