Course Description:

This online course is a book discussion group surrounding the popular and controversial book Boys Adrift by Dr. Leonard Sax. Sax, both a medical doctor and a clinical psychologist, explores the recent epidemic of underachieving boys. He postulated that five factors are influencing this new trend. 1)teaching methods, 2) video games, 3) prescription drugs, 4) endocrine disruptors in the environment, and 5) the devaluation of masculinity. This four-week course guides teachers through the book, critically examining both the scientific evidence and their own anecdotal experiences. The course concludes with a plan to assist the boys in their classroom on their way to "achieving manhood".
