CURRENT TRENDS IN MUSIC ED
YOU MUST BE A DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE EMPLOYEE TO PARTICIPATE
Aside from formal courses of study at universities while pursuing degrees in music, professional development to learn about music methods, strategies, and pedagogical techniques is not readily available aside from professional music educators’ conferences. By attending these conferences, participants improve their teaching skills, musicianship, and knowledge of the ever-changing trends in music education, contemporary techniques, and the availability/use of new (and old) resources. Outstanding presentations by leading music educators amongst DoDDs colleagues as well as top educators and musicians from the U.S. stimulate thinking and creativity in the classroom.
Presenters will address topics such as vocal, instrumental and technological teaching methods, all of which are used regularly in DoDDS music lessons. Concepts learned will be put into practice upon arrival back at participants’ schools. It is for these reasons that this conference will benefit not only participants’ current teaching assignments, but future assignments as well.
Professional educators should remain active in their fields and professional organizations. Time at this National Association for Music Education (NAfME) European affiliate (EMEA) conference is spent in the various sessions learning strategies, reviewing concepts, and gaining knowledge of skills that are being taught in modern music classrooms. It is for this reason that attendance at this conference will benefit DoDDS immediately and in the future.
