SUMMER INSTITUTE II
The Summer Institute is comprised of thirteen full day professional development sessions addressing reading, writing and critical thinking across all content areas for gades K-12. Learn great strategies that can be used in your classroom immediately by international and national presenters. You select the sessions that meet your needs.
New standards, new assessments and more rigorous expectations are the challenges educators face today. Participants will learn how to support students as they read, write and think critically. Participants will develop deeper understanding of strategies for reading, writing and critical thinking. This program includes multiple sessions each focusing on reading, writing, or critical thinking.
Reflective summaries will be provided for each day of learning. Participants will also select at least four strategies learned in the class and/or book that coincides with the session.
Participants will use newly learned strategies for helping students become better readers, writers and critical thinkers by doing at least two of the following:
Teach students how to construct effective claims and evidence responses
Assess student responses and provide students with feedback for improvement
Effectively use the reading strategies as a means to teach concepts
Develop performance tasks and assessments on an electronic platform
Use close reading strategies in their lessons and assessments
Use formative assessment techniques prior to instruction
Use differentiated lessons
