MASON LEARNING SERIES II

Course Description:

YOU MUST BE A TEACHER FOR MASON CITY SCHOOLS TO PARTICIPATE

This class provides a variety of face-to-face professional development opportunities for teachers in our district. In addition to workshops, the teachers will participate in curriculum and assessment development sessions.

Teachers are faced with an increasingly diverse population of students with a wide variety of educational needs. They are also challenged with more rigorous standards designed to ensure that all students are college and career ready. These two conditions create a need for teachers to collaborate to plan, pool their expertise, and collectively solve the complex problems of their practice.

The assignment is to develop instructional plans that include: a) specific goals for improvement in student achievement (for example, students’ standardized test scores, classroom assessment scores, or course grades); b) a list of actions they will take to impact student achievement (for example, instructional strategies, common unit plans, or classroom intervention strategies); and c) the list of evidence they will collect to determine whether their actions were successful.
