Cyber bullying is like having a gigantic megaphone. Bullies can spread vitriol quickly and anonymously. Parents, school administrators, and law enforcement are all concerned about it as lawsuits and even teen suicides have brought awareness to the issue. This online course takes an in depth look at bullying in the digital age.
This workshop will introduce participants to a variety of techniques to use to deal with the issue and whenever possible integrate these techniques into the curriculum in connection with Ohio Content Standards and ISTE NETS Standards.

This online course is a book discussion group surrounding the popular and controversial book Boys Adrift by Dr. Leonard Sax.  Sax, both a medical doctor and a clinical psychologist, explores the recent epidemic of underachieving boys.  He postulates that five factors are influencing this new trend:  1) teaching methods, 2) video games, 3) prescription drugs, 4) endocrine disruptors in the environment, and 5) the devaluation of masculinity.  This four-week course guides teachers through the book, critically examining both the scientific evidence and their own anecdotal experiences.  The course concludes with a plan to assist the boys in their classroom on their way to “achieving manhood.” There is an additional Instructional Fee paid directly to WVIZ/PBS.
