RE-IMAGINING RDG GR 3-8
Readers in grades 3-8 don't need to be guided (through guided reading structures) as much as they need to be engaged. In this course, we will investigate tools, classroom examples, and actionable steps essential for starting, sustaining, and mastering the management of small groups. In doing so, we will uncover structures that foster increasing reading volume, choice, and access to texts unique to students individual interests, passions, habits, and needs. We will work through five teacher moves that work together to support students' reading independence through small group learning-kidwatching, pivoting, assessing, curating, and planning-including examples to guide you and your students towards success.
This is a self-paced course, with a time committment of approx. 3.5 hours per session (8 sessions total) and a final project. You are able to enroll in the course any time between Nov. 15 and August 2019.
