STUDENT CIVIL RIGHTS
The United States Department of Education does not tolerate discrimination in public schools. The Department’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) enforces several statutes that serve to protect students from harassment while on school property.
The ORC also makes a distinction between bullying and discrimination, and educators are responsible for knowing what justifies harassment and what incidences they are legally required to report. We will explore dynamic issues impacting students and educators in schools as well as best practices to address issues that will help to keep schools in compliance with federal standards. (Please note: This is a hybrid course. We will have one class meeting on Saturday from 9am -‐ 5pm, and then you will have two weeks to complete the remaining online assignments. Visit www.thefrederickcenter.com or email email@example.com for more details.)
