Book study on Distrupting Thinking: Why How We Read Matters by Kylene Beers and Robert Probst; 10 weeks of reading, discussion, collaboration, and sharing ideas. Expectation for credit is approx. 3 hours spent a week: reading, reflecting/posting on blog, reading posts of other’s and responding. All discussions will occur asynchronously posted on this blog: http://octelasbs.weebly.com/  

Participants will understand the importance of examining how we support and engage students in meaningful reading. Participants will examine thinking strategies when reading, specifically "book-head-heart" as a framework.

Participants will better understand the challenges of "fake news" and the importance of guiding students to think critically, creatively, collaboratively, and compassionately.
