Course Description:

Fundamentals of Correctional Education will cover the history and philosophy of correctional education.  This history provides the context for understanding the Principle of Correctional Education as outlined by Carole Eggleston, Ph.D.  The long history of prison reform, and correctional education’s place within it, is presented in this course.  Correctional Education’s Standards and the impact of correctional education on recidivism are discussed.  People who have had traditional education backgrounds will find this course very helpful in understanding what distinguishes the public school educator from those who work in correctional settings.  Correctional educators will find this course helpful by providing the rich legacy of correctional education’s history, which gives context and purpose to their work.
