Nursing can be very challenging and very rewarding. As a registered nurse (RN), you may wonder whether taking that next step toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) makes sense for you. Particularly if you already work long shifts in an unpredictable environment, you may think you just don’t have time to pursue another degree. Ashland University’s RN to BSN online program can help!

Why should you get your BSN? There are a number of advantages to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. One that may be in the forefront of your mind is the salary potential of a BSN. In fact, an RN will earn a median of $39,100, and a BSN holder will earn more than $69,000.

In addition, earning a BSN opens up more opportunities for you as a nurse. A number of nursing positions require you to have a BSN, including nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, nurse anesthetist and clinical nurse specialist. You may want to work in surgery, hospice and palliative care, the ICU, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, psychiatry, diabetes, or pediatrics. With a BSN, you can pursue a wider range of specialties than you are able to as an RN. A person with a BSN is eligible for 88% of posted nursing jobs!
