ACCESS Course Structure

  • Basic English: Students develop basic interpersonal communications skills.
  • Intermediate English: Students move from general English to academic content.
  • Advanced English: Students prepare to enter the academic community.

The Pathways Program  at ACCESS: Ashland, Ohio

  • For students who test into high intermediate and advanced levels
  • Students take ten hours of English language courses in ACCESS.
  • At the same time, they take one course in their majors at the university.         

Online Courses through ACCESS: Synchronous Virtual Classes with an Instructor

Group Classes

  • Basic, Intermediate, and Avanced Listening-Speaking and Reading-Writing
  • Placement is by in-house entrance examination.
  • Students may complete the entire intensive English program from their home countries. 
  • Successful completion of the intensive English program leads to direct admission. 

Individual Lessons

  • Students select their own courses and levels.
  • Students may study two courses per 7-week term.
  • Students may study a minimum of 2 hours per week per course up to a maximum of 10 hours per week per course.
  • Successful completion of the intensive English program leads to direct admission. 
  • Lessons are also open to students who wish to develop their English skills without hoping for university admission.
