​ACCESS Course Structure

  • Basic English: Students develop basic interpersonal communications skills.
  • Intermediate English: Students move from general English to academic content.
  • Advanced English: Students prepare to enter the academic community.

The Support Center at ACCESS

Western Communication Seminar

  • For ESL students who are proficient with English at an advanced level
  • Instructors coach students in western-style discussions and presentations.
  • Instructors help students compose western-style outlines, essays, and research papers.

ACCESS Tutoring Center

  • For ESL students who are proficient with English at an advanced level
  • Instructors test for ability and then target areas for improvement.
  • Instructors offer support on individual assignments so ESL students can achieve academic success.

Direct Admit Developmental Courses

  • For direct-admit ESL students who find that they are not yet proficient with English at an advanced level
  • Instructors offer listening/speaking or reading/writing courses that meet two hours per day, four days per week.
  • Instructors target students' areas of need intensively so students can experience progress quickly.
