Rick Ewing was raised on a farm in Ashland, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Science in Art and Design with a concentration in Building Technologies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture. Shortly after graduating from MIT, he began his career as a structural engineer at Korda/Nemeth Engineering in Columbus, Ohio. At Korda, Rick provided structural engineering services and also represented the firm as project manager on many full-service engineering projects.

In 2004, Rick moved back to Ashland and took a position as project and facilities engineer for Ashland University. In 2007, he was named director of Physical Plant, overseeing construction and facilities operations of the 1.5 million square feet of campus buildings and more than 420 acres of land. In 2009, Rick was promoted to executive director of Facilities Management and Planning and then in 2010, he was named vice president and appointed to the President’s Cabinet.

Rick is an active member of his community, where he serves on the Ashland City Planning Commission and the Ashland County Career Center Boards of Education. He also serves on the Ashland Main Street Board and is on the Board of Directors at a Columbus-based engineering firm.
