Welcome to Career Services Center!  

Plan Early

Freshman Year

  • Reflect on what classes, activities, and hobbies you excelled in prior to college and how you could build off of them here at AU

  • Meet with your academic advisor to explore different academic disciplines

  • Don’t be afraid to engage with faculty about making a career out from the topics that interest you

  • Maintain a solid GPA - Check out the Center for Academic Support

  • Develop your resume

  • Join at least one student organization on campus

  • Visit the Career Services center for helpful workshops

  • Go to at least one Career Fair (AU holds one career fair in the fall and in the spring)

Learn and Grow

Sophomore Year

Learn and Grow

  • Confirm your major

  • Consider adding a minor

  • Find out what you can do with your major after you graduate

  • Apply/network for internships related to your major. This can help determine whether your major aligns with the type of work your enjoy doing

  • Job shadow in the field you wish to work

  • Visit the Career Services center for help with crafting your cover letters and resume

  • Go to at least one Career Fair (AU holds one career fair in the fall and in the spring)

Start Preparing

Junior Year

  • Find your first/an additional internship

  • Begin the application process for grad school (if you desire to go to grad school upon graduation)

  • Further develop your LinkedIn page with your professional experiences

  • Volunteer (This provides great both personal and professional development)

  • Review your social media accounts and consider deleting posts that employers would find inappropriate (binge drinking, mild nudity, etc.)

  • Visit the Career Services center for help with starting your job search

  • Go to at least one Career Fair (AU holds one career fair in the fall and in the spring)

  • Request letters of recommendation from faculty members
