Interested in learning a new skill? Want to gain certification in CPR/First Aid/AED? Ever consider becoming a lifeguard? The classes are open to members, non-members affiliated with Ashland University and also members of the community. Classes will only be scheduled if there is a group of at least 5 individuals who are interested in obtaining their LG certification. Please contact the Department of Recreational Services if you are interested in participating in a class.

Traditional Classroom and Blended Learning courses available! We will be offering a blended learning course, where coursework is completed online at the participant's leisure, and reduce the amount of time spent in person.
This course teaches the skills necessary to guard at an aquatic facility. Successful participants will receive CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard and First Aid Training certifications. Absence from any of the classes will result in a failure of the course and forfeiture of the registration fee. Instructors are not permitted to make up missed material with participants. New Lifeguard Training books and pocket masks are provided to class participants upon registration.
Prerequisite: Pass the Lifeguard Training Prerequisite
Length of class: 20 hours
Classes are held in the classroom and in the pool. Participants are expected to bring a bathing suit and be ready to enter the water each day.
Course A: Monday, March 28-Friday April 1st 4:00-9:00 p.m.
Course B (Blended Learning): Friday April 8 7:00-8:00 p.m (Prereq skills test), Saturday April 30, Sunday May 1 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Course C: Monday May 16-Friday May 20 4:00-9:00 p.m.
Registration and payment must be completed the Friday before the course begins in order to provide enough time to adequately complete all the trainings and tests. Once registered, instructions for the online training will be sent.
Successful completion of this course will renew lifeguard training, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. This class will update participants on the new American Red Cross lifeguard CPR/AED guidelines. Participants should be prepared to take a written and water skill test.
Prerequisite: Proof of current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training and First Aid certifications.

Minimum enrollment in all classes is five.
All registered participants must bring the Participants Manual with them on the day of class. Materials will be sent attached as a PDF in an email once you have registered. The manual will also be available the day of class for purchase. Participants must bring money that day or they will not be able to attend class.
