Winter Festival Band Concert set for Saturday night, Dec. 11

Dec. 07, 2021 ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University Symphonic Band and Ashland Area Community Concert Band are teaming up for a Winter Festival Band Concert this Saturday night, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m., at Hugo Young Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.

Each band will play a five-to-six song set, conducted by Joseph Lewis Jr., director of bands at Ashland University. Dave Wolbert will conduct one piece during the community band portion.

The AU Symphonic Band, consisting of about 60 students from Ohio and across the U.S., traditionally performs a variety of literature. On the docket for Saturday are modern pieces “Cloudsplitter Fanfare” by Jack Stamp and “On This Bright Morning” by David Maslanka, classic compositions “Joyce’s 71st N.Y. Regimental March” by Thornton Barnes Boyer and “Greensleeves” by Alfred Reed as well as a holiday medley, “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson.

The Ashland Area Community Concert Band, founded in 1993, features musicians from Ashland and the surrounding counties who desire to continue their musical study and creative activity. The group also plays a variety of compositions, scheduled to include “Florentiner March” by Julius Fucik, “American Folk Rhapsody” by Clare Grundman, “Rushmore” by Alfred Reed, “Salvation is Created” by Pavel Tschesnokoff, “Minor Alterations” by David Lovrien and “It’s Christmas” arranged by Warren Barker.
