About the UWC

The Writing Center, located in Center for Humanities Bixler (CFHB) 104,  is open during the hours listed below.  Online appointments are available for students in online-only undergraduate programs. For information about these appointments, please email writingcenter@ashland.edu. Although not all hours are staffed by Writing Assistants, students are welcome to use the Center computers for work on assignments on their own.

Regular Hours:

9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday–Thursday
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday

Drop-in Hours (No appointment needed):

7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday–Thursday

Note: Students are allowed to have more than one appointment in a day, but they must wait at least one hour between appointments. In other words, students cannot book back-to-back hour-long appointments.

Drop-In Hours Policy

You do not need to make an appointment to use drop-in hours. These hours operate on a first come, first serve basis. If there is high demand during drop-in hours, the WAs may be required to shorten appointments. We will do our best to try and work with everyone who comes to drop-in hours. On rare occasions when there is a really high volume, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to work with a WA. To ensure that you are seen, we encourage you to come at the beginning of drop-in hours.

Cancellation Policy

Appointments must be canceled 24 hours in advance. If you do have to cancel an appointment at the last minute, please try to contact your WA (you should be able to find their emails in the AU directory) to let them know that you won’t be able to make the appointment. Please note that you have to cancel an appointment within 24 hours of the scheduled time, the appointment may be marked as a no-show.

No-Show Policy

If you have five or more no-show appointments within one semester, your WCOnline account will be disabled for the remainder of that semester. If you still want to use the UWC services while your account is disabled, you can use the UWC drop-in hours. If you would like to have your account reactivated at the end of the semester in which it was disabled, you need to contact the UWC at writingcenter@ashland.edu.

Mentoring and Resources to Sharpen Writing Skills

The University Writing Center welcomes all students who are writing papers for courses in any discipline. Writing Assistants (WAs) represent a variety of majors & and minors and core courses.
