The Public Relations Office has a News Center that serves as a resource for media throughout the country. This News Center features current and archived news releases, a faculty experts directory and topics directory and an "Ashland University in the News" section showing how faculty and the University are featured in the media.
The Public Relations Office is responsible for leading the public relations and communications efforts of Ashland University. The office works to protect and enhance the image of Ashland University through strategic communications with the College’s stakeholders: potential students and donors, current students, faculty and staff, alumni, trustees, community and business leaders and the media. The office is responsible for news media relations and strategies, public relations planning and counseling, issues and crisis management, internal and external communications, University (special) events and the News Center presence on the Web.
Much publicity about Ashland University is garnered through news releases. When an event is held on campus and a news release needs to be sent about the event, the Public Relations Office, 101A Founders Hall, will write a release and send it to the appropriate audience.
Releases should go out about three weeks prior to the event and no later than 10 days prior to make sure it makes any weekly newspaper deadlines. Please have event information ready for the writer when you ask him or her to write the release. For example, if a speaker has a biography available, include that in the information sent to the public relations office. Please try to include the following information: who, what, when (date and time) why, where and cost (and where to get tickets, if appropriate.)
If you are responsible for a student group or activity that involves multiple students, the Public Relations Office would like to send news releases to the students' hometowns. Send a list of student names, any positions they hold in the organization or club and information about the organization.
Those faculty and staff members who are involved in professional development should send this information to the Public Relations Office for use in media releases as well as the on-campus portal. Include your name, department and a brief description about what you did, when and where you did it and any other pertinent information. This can be sent to email@example.com.
