Student Learning Outcomes

The Communication Studies student will:

  • Critically analyze the complexity of human communication addressing the ongoing transaction between and among parties.
  • Explain and apply theories and research to central questions of the communication studies discipline.
  • Create informative, persuasive, and conversational messages by identifying and evaluating the audience, purpose, and context.
  • Create and deliver effective written, oral and digital presentations for a given audience.
  • Critically analyze messages through the use of listening skills.
  • Explain the social, cultural, and ethical responsibilities of communicators.

Student Learning Outcomes

What to Expect

Develop a strong communication foundation that includes speaking, listening, writing, organization, leadership, and conflict negotiation skills as they apply to a variety of instution and relation contexts. The program focuses on message creation, analysis, and delivery in face-to-face contexts to prepare with an emphasis on corporate communication and leadership. It does require a minor or dual major.

In this program, you’ll:

  • Have a 100% online delivery option through the College of Online and Adult Studies

  • Earn 30 credit hours providing flexibility with transfer credit and minors

  • Gain foundational health communication information aimed at patients and practitioners

  • Learn conflict negotiation techniques for relation and organizational contexts

  • Obtain risk and crisis management skills for private, government, and nonprofit institutions

  • Take foundational coursework leading to a Masters of Arts in Corporate and Strategic Communication, should you decide to continue

Additionally, while not required, you may complete up to 16 credit hours of Elective Internship credit to further your first hand experience in the field.
