AU hosting Nov. 11 presentation that will examine how to thrive in an AI-powered future
ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University will welcome Lew Ludwig, Ph.D., director of Denison University’s Center for Learning and Teaching, for a special presentation on how to thrive in an AI-powered future. He will present “AI and You: Partnering for the Future,” on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium. The event, free and open to the public, is part of this year’s College of Arts and Sciences’ Symposium Against Indifference series.
The theme of Ludwig’s presentation is that in a world increasingly shaped by AI, staying relevant means learning how to become an irreplaceable collaborator with the technology. “AI and You” will explore how rigorous, human-driven learning prepares us to partner with AI, not rely on it. Ludwig believes true innovation happens when we bring knowledge and creativity to the table, which AI alone can’t do.
Ludwig has been a faculty member at Denison since 2002, serving as a professor in mathematics and computer science. His research focuses on the mathematical field of knot theory, and he was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award from the Ohio Section of the Mathematical Association of America in 2013. As director of the Center for Learning and Teaching, he supports and collaborates with Denison faculty at all career stages to develop and enhance teaching skills, to explore and refine pedagogical perspectives and to promote student learning in all facets of a liberal arts education.
AU’s Symposium Against Indifference series began in 2001. The College of Arts and Sciences seeks to challenge the university community, as well as the wider Ashland community, toward a deeper understanding of difficult affairs and creative responses from individuals and organizations. This year’s theme is “Thinking About Intelligence: Human and Artificial.”
