ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University Department of Theatre will present “Godspell,” the popular 1971 musical based on the Gospel of Matthew, from Thursday, March 26, through Sunday, March 29, in the Hugo Young Theatre at the Center for the Arts. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s matinee is at 2 p.m.

“Godspell,” with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John-Michael Tebelak, takes a joyful and lighthearted approach to well-known parables, inviting the audience to reflect on themes of kindness, forgiveness and community. This production is being directed by Teresa Durbin-Ames, associate professor of theatre, with music direction by Deborah Logan and choreography by Brittany Wentworth.

The cast of talented students features James Barrows, Isla Donley, Emilee Fletcher, Bryce Kuhel-Schaade, Eiley McCardle, Abby Mozina, Gabe Noble, Selah Rush, Ryn Shoaff, Will Stewart, Bri Studer and Lana Young. Supporting them is a group of students working behind the scenes in Ella Adams, Isabelle Castalucci, Eliana Douglas, Meredith Morgan, Ellie Nickoli, Sheldon Stotts and Claire Walker.

“By blending humor with storytelling and memorable music, ‘Godspell’ reminds us that even in challenging times, hope and empathy can bring people together,” said Durbin-Ames. “At its heart, the musical celebrates the idea that community is built through understanding, generosity and a shared purpose – to love.”

Tickets can be purchased from the AU Campus Store in person or online at ashland.edu/performing-arts-tickets. They will not be available for purchase at the door.
