ASHLAND, Ohio – The Homeschool and Classical Learning Center (HCLC) at Ashland University, in conjunction with the Christian Communicators of America (CCA), will be hosting a two-day speech and debate tournament on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10.

This event is the final tournament of the year’s CCA speech and debate league and will welcome an estimated 150-175 homeschool students to AU’s campus.

Through a series of structured debates and prepared speeches, students will refine their research and public speaking skills and gain confidence and clarity as communicators while engaging in friendly, meaningful competition.

“This year marks the launch of HCLC’s speech and debate program, and we are excited to see it already growing into a vibrant, skill-building opportunity for students,” said Theresa Watson, coordinator of AU’s Homeschool and Classical Learning Center. “Partnering with the Christian Communicators of America, this tournament reflects our commitment to providing students with an encouraging environment to develop critical thinking, persuasive speaking and effective communication skills.”

Founded in 2002, CCA is a non-profit organization that focuses on developing rhetorical and critical-thinking skills in homeschool students, so they may confidently express themselves in a manner that brings glory to God. For more information, visit ccadebate.org.
