Coburn Gallery hosting “An Afterimage of a Myth Unraveling” exhibition from Oct. 8-31
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will present “An Afterimage of a Myth Unraveling,” a one-person exhibition by Michael Schmidt, from Thursday, Oct. 8, through Saturday, Oct. 31. There will be an opening reception Oct. 8 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Admission to Coburn Gallery (331 College Ave., Ashland) is always free and open to the public.
“An Afterimage of a Myth Unraveling” emerged from a series of stop-motion animations created by Schmidt, an Ohio-based artist. Enamored with time as a medium and the cinematic qualities it evokes from the drawing process, Schmidt’s work gravitates toward representations of reality and examines movement, viewership and the influence of media, as viewers consider how meaning can be manipulated through the images we consume.
Schmidt has worked as a freelance artist and exhibited internationally, and his works are in private collections around the country. He is currently a visiting assistant professor at the University of Mount Union and has also been an adjunct professor at Mount Union, the University of Akron and the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Schmidt holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and a master of fine arts degree in drawing and painting from California State University, Long Beach.
The Coburn Gallery is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and noon-4 p.m. on weekends. For more information, visit ashland.edu/coburn-gallery or call 419-289-5652.
