Juried Student Art and Design Exhibition winners announced

ASHLAND, Ohio – Ten awards from the 2026 Juried Student Art and Design Exhibition at Ashland University went to student artists, as announced by Cynthia Petry, director of AU’s Coburn Gallery. The exhibition runs through March 30.

More than $1,000 was distributed to the winners across a variety of categories. They were announced at the opening reception on March 5, except for the People’s Choice award which will be revealed on the Coburn Gallery’s Instagram page on March 25.

The exhibition features 78 works selected by outside juror John Jude Palencar, an American illustrator and fine artist who is well known for his surreal, detailed and symbolic fantasy, horror and science fiction artwork. Based in Ohio, Palencar has created hundreds of book covers, including works for Stephen King and “The Inheritance Cycle” series by Christopher Paolini. Among his numerous honors, he was selected for the 2010 Hamilton King Award, given annually by the Society of Illustrators.
